Italian Wine

With over 800 wine grape varieties, 20 uniquely designated winegrowing regions, and hundreds of years of winemaking history on the books, Italy’s wine scene is a glorious adventure from grape to glass.
While Italy has successfully planted the vast majority of the dominant international grape varietals, the country’s domestic vines are what offer the true flavor characteristics that have made Italian wines world-renowned for ages. With literally hundreds of wines produced in Italy annually, it is no wonder that selecting Italian wines can be a bit intimidating. Deciphering Italian wine terms and names, interpreting Italian wine labels, learning Italian wine classification systems, understanding regional grape growing zones, and discerning grape varietals that do not always fall into the “familiar” category are all part of the Italian wine adventure. Online Store!
Across Italy, winemakers expound on their particular terroir, and the significant role it plays in the end product – their wines. The extensive latitudinal range of the country permits wine to grow from the Alps in the north to almost-within-sight of Africa in the south. The fact that Italy is a peninsula with a long shoreline contributes moderating climate effects to coastal wine regions. Italy’s mountainous and hilly terrain provides a variety of altitudes and climate and soil conditions for grape growing.

Le Rive di Bonato, Negresia, Treviso

About

Winemakers since 1888. The agricultural business farm Le Rive is based in Nigrisia di Ponte di Piave, in the province of Treviso (Italy) in the Eastern part of “Gioiosa et Amorosa Marca Trevigiana”, 30 km from Venice. Ecclesiastic documents dating back to 1568. already testified the presence of Family “Bonato dei Bonati” in Negrisia, a land with settled and ancient tradition in the vine cultivation field.
The hundred-year-old mulberry tree is a witness of the past, standing as a stately sentinel of the wine cellar, for hundreds of years an ancient example of the traditional wine-growing in the region, with the “Raggi a Belussi” (a training system invented by the Belussi family with vines disposed of like rays), of Rabose vines tightly attached to the mulberry trees.
Huge investments updating the wine cellar and the vineyards just confirm the passion and care father Gino and his sons Luigi and Andrea dedicate to their wine production and their territory. Quality is the only aim of Family Bonato. A value conquered by sacrifice, courageous choices, and obduracy.

Terroir

The evolution of this territory is indissolubly connected with the pedological variety originated by River Piave, which, along the centuries has been tracing the ground stratigraphy in Marca Trevigiana. The territory offers a great pedological variety, from the rocky hills of Valdobbiadene, to the medium-mixture soils in the Negrisia plain, allowing for different varieties of grapes being produced, from the fresh and fruity Prosecco to the full-bodied Raboso Piave.

Prosecco D.O.C. Frizzante Spago - LE RIVE di Bonato

TERROIR – Soil composition: consisting of stones, loose, calcareous. Production area: our vineyards in Negrisia (Tv)
VINIFICATION – after the harvest, grapes are pressed softly, without lacerations, to obtain the “flower must”. Then the static cold decantation of the must follows, in order to eliminate all solid parts on the surface. With the inoculation of selected yeasts, the fermentation begins at a controlled temperature of 18 °C. The second fermentation takes place at low temperatures in an autoclave.
TASTING NOTES – straw yellow with greenish highlights, fine and lively perlage. An intense, enveloping, and balanced bouquet that reminds of green apple, wisteria, peach, and acacia flowers. Rich, intense, and fresh on the palate with notes that have complete correspondence with the perfume.
FOOD PAIRING: extremely versatile, ideal for every moment throughout the day, as an aperitif or to pair with everyday light meals. It matches well with risotto made with seasonal vegetables and dishes based on fish. To be served at a temperature of 6 – 8 °C preferably in an ice bucket.
